Reality Aquarium

By Shirlie Sharpe, About.com

There has been so much positive feedback about the live plant journal and reader question and answers, that I've decided to start a new feature about real life aquarium situations. The feature will be an ongoing journal called "Reality Aquarium", and will feature reader problems and solutions for them.

To get this started I'm looking for people who are having a problem, large or small, that they would like help with. In addition to problems I would consider new adventures, such as people who would like to try something new, specialty tanks, converting to different equipment (i.e.: UGF to Canister or vice versa), or breeding fish.

To be considered for publication you have to be willing and able to:
  • Send photos of your aquarium (digital preferable)
  • Write about the problem or new adventure you'd like to try
  • Follow instructions and advice given
  • Honestly submit your results (along with photos)

There will be no compensation for this, other than the fact that you'll get free advice, and be featured online for your friends and family to see.

A few possible scenarios for Reality Aquarium are:
  • Tank overrun with algae
  • Tank overrun with snails or other pests
  • Tank with cloudy water
  • Tank with green water
  • Very dirty tank
  • Cleaning or repairing a filter
  • Tank that needs to be redecorated
  • Moving an aquarium
  • Changing over to different equipment
  • Setting up a hospital tank
  • Setting up a breeding tank
  • Breeding fish

If you are interested in participating, email me a short summary of what you'd like to do, and if possible, a digital photo of the tank or equipment that would be in the feature. You can send the information to: freshaquarium.guide@about.com
